Made entirely on a sinewave generator, these five improvisations are evocative of early electronic minimalism. The title track, a twenty minute weaving of spinning tones (that’s a good fifteen minutes longer than the other tracks here) is the best thing here. It’s softly orbiting patterns, anchorless electronics and thoughtful primitivism generating widening mesh of melodies. Some of the other tracks take an obviously less melodic conduit, becoming jarring and a little head-heavy – intensive systems-check that become atonal warning cries.
Using shorter sinewaves, their shortened span like an actual rhythm, ‘The Adrenochrome Hypothesis’ leans more towards shortwave captures. As either a release or as an experiment it certainly pays off, but those who like a more minimal and clamorous ride will get the most out of it. [ 6/10 ]
