Shinola 18

Magnet review of Vodka

by Greg Barbera, Magnet

The debut single from Chapel Hill's Shinola, with its minimal production and simple song structures, shows us that not everybody in town strives for that dual-guitar, post-punk vibe. Shinola takes a loosely based punk ethic and wraps it through country twang. The a-side, with its shrieking violin fed throgh a tube amp, is a dandy tune, dissonant and dirty. You can envision these blokes playing homemade instruments in the sticky sweat of a Southern summer.
